As the Phillies' offense sputtered again and failed to score a run after the second inning Friday night, Cole Hamels blew a 3-0 lead and suffered his 11th loss of the season (see story).
Afterward, a reporter pried Charlie Manuel about his team's poor performance at the plate, to which he snapped, "I don't know what I can do" (see story).
Manuel's lineup for Saturday will be almost identical to the one he penciled in on Friday, with the expection of John Mayberry replacing Delmon Young in right field and the No. 6 spot in the order.
Young has hit just .167 with no homers and three RBIs in his last 10 games, and he's also a defensive liability in the outfield. Mayberry hasn't exactly been hot in his last 10 games either (.125, 1 HR, 3 RBIs) but at least he is more apt at getting to a fly ball.
Brought in to boost the Phillies' bats, Young hasn't exactly panned out, hitting .225/.283/.399 with six homers and 17 RBIs in 43 games. Mayberry has outperformed him — albeit not by much — going .256/.310/.442 with five homers and 18 RBIs in 63 contests.
Ben Revere will back seventh for the second straight game. He extended his hitting streak to 11 games with two infield singles on Friday.
Chase Utley starts again after making his return from the disabled list on Friday, when he was 0 for 5.
And look for reliever J.C. Ramirez in the bullpen. He was called up to replace Mike Adams, who was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday (see story).
Here's the starting nine:
1) Jimmy Rollins, SS
2) Chase Utley, 2B
3) Michael Young, 3B
4) Ryan Howard, 1B
5) Domonic Brown, LF
6) John Mayberry Jr., RF
7) Ben Revere, CF
8) Carlos Ruiz, C
9) Jonathan Pettibone, P
