Today's lineup: Red-hot Carlos Ruiz gets day off

April 27, 2014, 1:45 pm

Ryne Sandberg has shown that he will give his everyday guys routine rest.

And despite Carlos Ruiz swinging the Phillies' hottest bat, Sandberg is giving his starting catcher a day off on Sunday when the Phils take on the Diamondbacks at 4:10 p.m.

Wil Nieves gets the start behind the plate in place of Ruiz, who is 11 for his last 22 (.500), raising his batting average from .204 to .296 in eight days.

Cody Asche, fresh off his game-tying, two-RBI pinch hit in the Phillies' come-from-behind win on Saturday (see story), is back in the starting lineup and hitting eighth behind Nieves.

A.J. Burnett takes the mound and opposes Brandon McCarthy. Read more about today's game in Mike Wisniewski's game notes.
