Today's Lineup: Struggling Chase Utley sits again

Share

Despite getting a hit in Saturday night's embarrassing 10-1 loss to the Cardinals, Chase Utley is back to the bench.

Cesar Hernandez will start at second base and bat second in the series finale. It's the second time this series Hernandez started at second for Utley.

The 36-year-old Utley has five hits in his last 50 at-bats, and his average is .182 on the season.

Hernandez is hitting .225 this season with one home run, seven doubles and 10 RBIs. Another indication Hernandez might be getting more starts at second going forward.

Left-hander Adam Morgan will make his major-league debut against St. Louis, the second time this series a Phillies pitcher starts his first big league game.

Morgan was 0-6 with a 4.74 ERA in 13 starts at Triple A Lehigh Valley. The 2011 third-round pick is tasked with facing the Cardinals, who own MLB's best record.

Opposite of Morgan is Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha, who is 9-2 with a 2.48 ERA this season. He's faced the Phillies once in his career, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings in an 11-5 win back in April.
