Freddy Galvis couldn’t buy a spot in the Phillies’ lineup for the first 10 games. Now Charlie Manuel can’t keep him out.
Galvis will start again on Monday in the series opener in Cincinnati, playing a third position in three days. He’ll play second base in place of a resting Chase Utley.
Utley had played all 106 1/3 innings for the Phillies this season. But he’s slumped of late, going 3 for 20 since April 9 with a triple and a homer.
Galvis has performed well in the starting lineup the last two games, going 3 for 6 with two walks. He was hit on the right hand by a Jon Rauch fastball in Sunday’s game, but avoided what looked like a scary injury.
The rest of the lineup is the normal order vs. a right-handed pitcher. Laynce Nix is in right field a day after hitting a game-winning, pinch-hit homer in Miami.
Cliff Lee is opposed by Reds righty Bronson Arroyo, who is 2-7 with a 6.55 ERA in his career against the Phillies.
Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Domonic Brown and Michael Young are batting a combined .340 with seven doubles and four homers against Arroyo.
Here’s the Phillies’ lineup:
1) Ben Revere, CF
2) Freddy Galvis, 2B
3) Jimmy Rollins, SS (first start of season in three-hole)
4) Ryan Howard, 1B (9 for 20, five XBH last five games)
5) Michael Young, 3B
6) Domonic Brown, LF
7) Laynce Nix, RF

6) Todd Frazier, 3B
7) Chris Heisey, LF
8) Ryan Hanigan, C
9) Bronson Arroyo, P
