Ben Revere is out of the Phillies’ starting lineup again Friday as they take on Reds rookie left-hander Tony Cingrani.

It is John Mayberry’s third straight start. He played CF against Indians lefty Scott Kazmir on Tuesday and went 3 for 4 with a two-run double and RBI single, then stayed in the eight-hole the next day and went 2 for 4 with two runs.

It makes sense to ride the hot bat. The Phillies hadn’t been turning the lineup over at all with Revere or the backup catcher batting eighth – their eighth batters had a .238 OBP with two outs in an inning entering this week. That’s just too many innings led off by the pitcher.

Mayberry earlier this week wouldn’t admit to feeling more comfortable in the eight-hole than at other spots, but the early results are positive – 7 for 13, three RBIs, three runs.

The rest of the lineup has the usual look against a lefty, with Chase Utley batting second and Michael Young third. In 11 starts this season batting second, Utley has hit .244 with three homers, but his on-base percentage is just .300.

1) Jimmy Rollins, SS

6) Domonic Brown, LF (.314 BA, 3 HR vs. LHP)
7) Carlos Ruiz, C
8) John Mayberry, CF

And for the Reds:

2) Zack Cozart, SS
3) Joey Votto, 1B (.392 BA in May)
