If it ain’t broke ...
Charlie Manuel will trot out the same lineup on Wednesday that he used in Tuesday’s 8-3 win over the Mets. John Mayberry Jr. is back in right field again against a second straight righty starter.
Mayberry rewarded Manuel for playing the hunch last night, homering and doubling to drive in three runs. All four of Mayberry’s extra-base hits this season are against right-handed pitchers.
Erik Kratz catches Kyle Kendrick, who looks to build on the first four innings – not the last two – of his opening start against the Royals.
Ben Revere leads off for the ninth straight game. He’s scuffling at the plate, batting just .229 with six strikeouts as he adjusts to NL pitching. Revere’s sixth strikeout last season came on June 2.
Revere is just 1 for 7 with a walk and two Ks in his first at-bat of games this season. Jimmy Rollins is 4 for 8 behind him.
When the Phillies last faced Wednesday’s starter Jeremy Hefner, they scored seven runs off him before he recorded an out. If Revere can get on base tonight to start the bottom of the first, perhaps a little bit of “Here we go again” will pop up in Hefner’s mind.
Here is the Phils’ lineup:
1) Ben Revere, CF
2) Jimmy Rollins, SS
3) Chase Utley, 2B
4) Ryan Howard, 1B
5) Michael Young, 3B
6) Domonic Brown, LF
7) John Mayberry Jr., RF
8) Erik Kratz, C
9) Kyle Kendrick, P
