Ryan Howard, who has exceptional career numbers against Braves starter Tim Hudson, was sent to the 15-day DL after initially being called a late scratch before Saturday's game (see story). Howard fielded ground balls in warmups but was scratched from the game because of an ailing left knee. Laynce Nix will fill in at first base.

The original lineup had Michael Young leading off, Howard batting cleanup and Ben Revere occupying the seven-hole. The new lineup looks much different, as Revere moves up and Young shifts to the middle of the order.

Howard owns a .328 lifetime batting average to go with seven homers, 17 RBIs, three doubles, and more walks (12) vs. Hudson than strikeouts (11). You don’t often see that from the Big Piece.

Utley hasn’t fared as well -- he’s a .231 lifetime hitter vs. Hudson.

Carlos Ruiz returns to the lineup to catch Kyle Kendrick a night after Humberto Quintero homered and doubled to drive in three.

New lineup

1) Ben Revere, CF
2) Chase Utley, 2B
3) Jimmy Rollins, SS
4) Domonic Brown, LF
5) Michael Young, 3B
6) Delmon Young, RF
7) Laynce Nix, 1B (first start since June 13)
8) Carlos Ruiz, C
9) Kyle Kendrick, P
