Darin Ruf is not in the Phillies' lineup for Wednesday's game against Jered Weaver and the Los Angeles Angels.
Ruf went 2 for 3 with a hit by a pitch and a strikeout in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Angels. He's still hitting just .194, but has a .722 OPS and has reached base in five of his last seven plate appearances.
Ryan Howard, a day after serving as the Phils' designated hitter, will return to his usual position at first base. Marlon Byrd will be the DH for the series finale.
Elsewhere in the lineup, Grady Sizemore will handle duties in right field and Cody Asche will take over for Andres Blanco at third base.
A.J. Burnett gets the start for the Phils. In 25 starts this season, Burnett is 6-12 with a 4.29 ERA and an NL-high 68 walks.
For the Angels, Weaver will make his second career start against the Phils. The veteran right-hander is 12-7 with a 3.68 ERA this season.
