In a pretty clear sign that Darin Ruf will get a bulk of the playing time at first base in Ryan Howard’s stead, Ruf is back in the Phils’ lineup Monday night against a second straight right-handed pitcher in Dan Haren.
The Phils’ batting order remains the same as it was on Sunday, with Ben Revere at the top and the Youngs in the middle.
It’s hard to move Revere anywhere else – he’s hit .337 since May 1 to raise his batting average to .295. He’s sixth in the NL in hitting since May 1, behind Yadier Molina, Michael Cuddyer, Allen Craig, Marco Scutaro and Matt Carpenter.
Revere’s .337 batting average over that span also leads all NL centerfielders.
Here is the lineup against Haren, who has the highest home run rate in all of baseball:
1) Ben Revere, CF
2) Jimmy Rollins, SS
3) Chase Utley, 2B
4) Domonic Brown, LF
5) Michael Young, 3B (.313 BA in 64 at-bats vs. Haren)
6) Delmon Young, RF
7) Darin Ruf, 1B
8) Carlos Ruiz, C
9) John Lannan, P
New National and perennial Phillie-killer Scott Hairston is expected to be in uniform for Monday’s game, though it is unlikely he starts over Denard Span, Bryce Harper or Jayson Werth.
