Cole Hamels worked his way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the eighth inning by striking out Ryan Zimmerman with heat and battling Jayson Werth who had already taken him deep earlier in the game. Hamels commented after the game that the crowd like that is why they all love playing in Philadelphia.

Cole finished the night going 8.0 strong innings while allowing 6 hits and striking out 4. Only the Werth solo shot really hurt him. Maybe he read our pregame post.

Following the game, Manuel had a pretty funny Charlie-ism when asked about Werth's final at bat in the eighth. "Close but no cigar," Charlie said in only a way Charlie can. You can watch it above.

Could these two victories over the Nationals be the start of something? Jim Salisbury seems to think so.
