Chooch Is Back in 2013, Polly Packing, and Ruf Continues to Bash

Many of us were a tad preoccupied with the scary weather yesterday, but there were a couple of important Phillies transactions we thought it wise to catch up on.

First and most importantly, Carlos Ruiz had his option picked up for the 2013 season. This is a no brainer for the team to give their signal caller and it's also one of the better steals in all of baseball at $5 million.

But it all wasn't fun yesterday as the Fightins had to part ways with some loyal guys who really helped them over the years.

Placido Polanco's mutual option was not picked up by the team. His buyout will cost the Phils a cool $1 million.

Also let walk were Ty Wigginton and Jose Contreras, both of whom receive half a million buyouts to depart.

Jimmy Rollins and Chooch were nominated for Rawlings Gold Gloves for 2012.

And finally, all Darin Ruf does is hit home runs. He bashed four in two days over the weekend down in Venezuela. That's 8 HRs in 14 games. Pret-ty, pret-ty, prettt-tttty good.
