Charlie Manuel has flashed his WWE Wrestling fandom bona fides in the past, whether it be dropping a Ric Flair Space Mountain line in a playoff press conference or simply putting Shane Victorino in a sleeper hold in the dugout. The skipper likes him some wrasslin'.
So it's no surprise he's wanted to talk shop with Jerry "The King" Lawler in the past about a specific bout.
Here's a fantastic anecdote about Manuel and Lawler from a Q&A with The King done by The Topeka Capital-Journal's View from the Upper Deck blog in the lead up to tonight's 1,000th episode of Monday Night Raw. Lawler:
I have been fortunate to meet a lot of people in baseball. Kenny
Lofton is a friend of mine and I did a piece of art work for his
organization, “Kenny’s Kids.” Charlie Manuel is a big WWE fan. One time I
was at the park and walked by his office. He had a bunch of scouts in
his office, saw me walk by and stopped me. He kicked out all of the
scouts from his office, sat down in his chair and wanted to talk about a
beating that Stone Cold (Steve Austin) had taken the night before.
