It's easy for sports fans around the coutnry to hate on the New York Yankees. But it's just as easy to respect one of the best pitchers many of us will ever get to see play the game.

Baseball lost perhaps the greatest closer ever on Thursday night in Kansas City as No. 42, Mariano Rivera, tore the ACL in his right knee while shagging fly balls in the outfield prior to the game. He's expected to be out for the season and his career could be in jeopardy.

The fly ball Mariano was trying to track down was hit by newly minted Yankee Jayson Nix, brother of Phillies outfielder Laynce.

Rivera got uncharacteristically emotional, tearing up at one point, when talking about the injury and whether or not he'd ever pitch again. [watch that video here]

The video of the injury is particularly gruesome to watch -- the pain on Mo's face, the reaction from A-Rod. You never want to see that happen to anyone, especially not one of the game's greats.

Hopefully Rivera can make a full recovery and pitch for the Yankees once again and leave the game of baseball on terms he decides.
