Hey, look! A new commenting system! We're just getting our feet wet with the new commenting system but will have more on that later once we learn all the ins and outs. Give it a whirl in the meantime.
A couple of Phillies notes to start the day:
The Phillies held a private workout for Cuban free agent Yoenis Cespedes down in the Dominican Republic. Jim Salisbury says Cespedes, a big yet speedy right-hander, has a build like that of Bo Jackson and adds that Pat Gillick was in attendance to take a look. The Phillies do not have a history of paying hefty money for international players unproven against MLB pitching. The starting number for Cespedes is said to be around $30 million.
They're also reportedly close to bringing back Brian Schneider to be the backup catcher next season. B-Schneid did a fine job handling the Phillies pitchers but he was simply awful with a bat in his hands. Beerleaguer takes a look Lehigh Valley's Erik Kratz as a possible option there.
Ruben Amaro was in Milwaukee at the GM Meetings where he has said the team's focus is now on shortstop, "There are no timetables," said Amaro on Tuesday. “Obviously, as I’ve said all along, we’d love to bring Jimmy back, but we have to figure out contingency plans if we don’t."
Ruben also added that they plan to bring back Ben Francisco, Wilson Valdez, and Kyle Kendrick.
