Roy Oswalt Goes for the Sweep Against His Former Club

Share

Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee pitched greatin
their respective 2011 debuts, keeping the Phillies in both games and
allowing the bats to do enough to earn victories. Roy Oswalt will try to
complete the sweep this afternoon against his former team while
potentially striking even more fear into the rest of the National
League. They looked dangerous on paper, and they're out to show they're
for real on the mound. So far, so good.

After leaving yesterday's game with a calf soreness from his
collision with Ben Francisco, Shane Victorino will get the day off this
afternoon. Shane will reportedly be fine for the next series against the
Mets, but Charlie Manuel has opted to give Michael Martinez his first
start with the Phillies. Martinez will leadoff and man center in Shane's
absence.

As for Oswalt, he'll kick off his season against the team that dealt
him to Philadelphia. You may remember the last time Roy faces the Stros
at Citizens Bank Park. It was only one of the most memorable regular
season games of recent memory in which Oswalt was forced to play left field and bat with the game on the line in extra innings.

The Phils were set to face J.A. Happ in today's game, but he's been
pushed back a couple of days to rest up a sore oblique. Instead they'll
face RHP Bud Norris. No relation to Chuck.

If you're heading to the ballpark today for the first Sunday game of
the season, you can only hope for as much excitement. But with the
Phillies winning this time, of course.
