Welp. Apparently the MRI results today were not great for Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard.
The Big Piece has a meniscus tear that will require surgery and he'll need 6-8 weeks to recover from it, according to GM Ruben Amaro Jr. who spoke with reporters before tonight's game against the Nationals. That would be around the late August to early September time frame.

Amaro says Howard needs surgery on torn meniscus. Six to eight wk recovery. No date for surgery but will be soon.

Surgery & 6-8 weeks out mostly ends Howard's season. Even if he is physically able in Sept., he always needs a couple months to shake rust.

Amaro said Darin Ruf will get his shot at first base while Howard is out.
