Scenes from a goofy but victorious opening day in Texas for the Phillies

The only thing Monday's opening day down in Texas was missing was Chris Wheeler on your television calling baseball "goofy."

I'm not sure what was least expected: the Phillies bats erupting for 14 runs or Cliff Lee struggling mightily, allowing 8 earned runs on 11 hits over 5 innings of work.

But at the end of the day, the Phillies put up more than the Rangers and came away with a 14-10 victory on opening day. It was the franchise's most runs on opening day since... 1900.

Aside from earning the 'W' there was plenty to be encouraged by: Ben Revere with three hits and 3 RBIs, Jimmy Rollins' salami (VIDEO), Chase Utley's three hits, Ryan Howard seeing plenty of pitches and earning a walk (!), Marlon Byrd going deep, Dom Brown showing some aggression on the base paths, Chooch scoring three times, Cody Asche getting off to a fantastic start, Tony Gwyn Jr. wearing sweet sunglasses, and John Mayberry Jr. with a huge pinch hit.

The Phils are 1-0. It may not have been pretty but it's a whole lot better than 0-1.
