With the Phillies off last night, we thought we'd check in with the minor league affiliates this morning. Ryan Howard hit a big RBI double in his rehab game in Lehigh Valley (more on that in the below video) to continue his progress towards returning to the Phils, likely after the All-Star Break. And Leandro Castro provided some fireworks for the R-Phils in a loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Check out the youngster's big swing and reaction to his rip.
Michal Neuvirth has a new mask — let's hope it helps him stop more pucks.
Neuvirth will debut a new lid Saturday night, when the Flyers return to game action after their five-day bye week against the New Jersey Devils at the Wells Fargo Center.
The new mask pays tribute to Flyers goaltending greats, such as Bernie Parent (two Stanley Cups), Ron Hextall (current GM, 1987 Vezina Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy winner) and Roman Cechmanek (why not?). Neuvirth will get the start tonight over Steve Mason.
In 13 games — 10 starts — this season, Neuvirth is 6-3 with a 3.30 goals-against average and .877 save percentage. Don't read too much into Neuvirth's start tonight, however.
The Flyers have a back-to-back beginning tonight, against New Jersey and the New York Islanders. The safe bet is to see Mason in net on Sunday night in Brooklyn.
But tonight, keep an eye out to see if Neuvirth can make a Cechmanek-esque head save.
