Two years ago today, with the Phillies playing in Washington, we found out we'd lost Harry Kalas.
Two years later, not a game goes by we don't hear his voice. In our look
back at so many of the great Phillies of the past 30 years over the
past month, the first thing that came to mind when considering the
players was the sound of their names spoken over the airwaves by Harry.
Mike Schmidt. Pete Rose. Von Hayes. Darren Daulton. Chase Utley. Ryan
Howard. Jimmy Rollins. The letters look so plain just typed onto the
page, but take one second to hear Harry say it in your head and the
inaudible sounds become transformative to a place in your memory when
that player did something great. We'll always have that.
