Sixers coach Brett Brown is headed to the Hall of Fame.

Not the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass, but the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame located at the University of Maine’s Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

What, you didn’t realize the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame existed? Well technically, it still doesn’t yet. The new establishment opens it’s doors Thursday when the inaugural class is inducted.

Brown, who was a two-time All-State selection at Portland High School, is one of 16 former Maine high school players, both male and female, being inducted. Joining Brown in the Hall of Fame is his father Bob, who spent 50 years coaching at both the high school and collegiate levels.

After leading Portland High to the 1979 Maine State Championship, Brett Brown played under Rick Pitino for four seasons at Boston University before launching his coaching career in Australia.
