Give and Go: Brett Brown's first 100 games

Each week, we'll ask questions about the Sixers to our resident basketball analysts and see what they have to say.

Running the Give and Go this week are CSNPhilly.com columnist John Gonzalez and CSNPhilly.com producer/reporter John Finger.

Evaluate Brett Brown after 100 games as Sixers head coach.

Gonzalez
Incomplete. It’s hard to know what kind of coach he really is until he has more pieces. I like the Sixers’ offensive pace. They share the ball well. They take open three-pointers and get to the rim. They generally avoid long twos. It all makes sense on paper.

But he’s coaching a lot of guys who either wouldn’t crack most NBA rotations or who should be playing in the D-League or Europe. But he hasn’t pulled out all his hair or doused himself in gasoline and then lit a match, so he gets full marks for restraint.

Finger
Needless to say, 20-80 in your first 100 games is not a very good record. Winning is the bottom line in pro sports and Brown's record over the first 100 games of his tenure would be awful if he were in any other situation.

Nevertheless, the fact that the Sixers won 20 games during that span with the roster Sam Hinkie has assembled over the past two seasons is a small miracle. Brown should have received Coach of the Year votes for winning 19 games last year and if he is able to equal that production this year, he ought to get a parade down Broad St.
