Give and Go: Should Wroten start when MCW returns?

Each week, we'll ask questions about the Sixers to our resident basketball analysts and see what they have to say.

Running the Give and Go this week are CSNPhilly.com columnist John Gonzalez and CSNPhilly.com producer/reporter Matt Haughton.

Should Tony Wroten continue starting when Michael Carter-Williams returns?

Gonzalez
No. Wroten is really good at one thing: Getting to the rim. He was among the league leaders in points off drives last season, and he’s among the league leaders in the same category this year. But he doesn’t shoot well from distance or at the line, and he’s a turnover machine.

Putting him on the floor with MCW means deploying two heavy usage rate guys who aren’t good shooters. I’m not sure how that would service the offense. Not to mention that you need someone to run point with the second unit. Back to the bench for Wroten.

Haughton
Absolutely. Having two athletic and attacking guards in a team's starting lineup sounds like a good problem to have. Wroten and Carter-Williams playing alongside each other would put tons of pressure on opposing defenses while giving both players the opportunity to play both on and off the ball at times.

Sure, you would like to have more shooting on the floor, but the Sixers don't have much of that on the roster anyway. Plus, Alexey Shved and K.J. McDaniels have proven capable of providing the backcourt scoring off the bench, so there's no pressing need for Wroten to go back to his reserve role.
