CLEVELAND -- The Sixers gave the Cavaliers a scare by rallying from down 20 points before ultimately suffering a 97-84 loss on Monday night.

The Sixers cut their deficit down to two in the fourth quarter but could never tie the game or take the lead as their record dropped to 10-39.

The Cavs won for the 11th consecutive time and improved to 30-20.

Michael Carter-Williams left the game with 7:31 to play in the third quarter and never returned. Carter-Williams was 1 for 9 from the field for two points. He had five assists and four rebounds as well in 20 minutes.

Sixers coach Brett Brown said postgame that Carter-Williams left because of a right shin injury.

Turning point
Matthew Dellavedova, who played for Brown on the Australian National team, hit three big threes in the fourth quarter to lift the Cavaliers to victory. Dellavedova was 3 for 3 from behind the arc in the final period, finishing with 11 points.

Follow the leader
Kyrie Irving led the Cavaliers' six players in double figures with 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting. He also had five assists.

LeBron James scored 18 points, but 14 of those came in the first quarter.

Robert Covington scored 18 points, while Hollis Thompson and JaKarr Sampson each added 10 points for the Sixers.

Stat-egic
For a second straight game, the Sixers put together a great third quarter. They were 5 for 8 from three-point range in the third. They forced the Cavaliers into nine turnovers and came from 20 down at the 8:39 mark to trail 69-65 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Sixers made 12 three-pointers in the game, two days after converting a season-high 14 threes against Atlanta.

Jerami Grant is becoming a reliable player at both ends of the floor. He tied Covington for the team high with 18 points. He was 5 of 7 from the field and also 5 for 7 at the foul line. Grant grabbed five rebounds as well.

What's next?
Denver is in Philadelphia waiting for the Sixers. The Nuggets lost a second straight game to the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday night. Denver is just 1-9 in its last 10 games.

Ty Lawson leads the Nuggets in scoring and assists per game with 16.5 and 9.9, respectively. Kenneth Faried is still ferocious on the glass, averaging 8.9 rebounds a night. The Nuggets are not very good defensively with their opponents averaging 104.0 points per game.
