BOX SCORE

For a moment it looked like the Sixers were going to avoid tying the franchise mark for consecutive losses to start a season.

Instead, they committed a costly turnover late and a veteran Nets team handed the Sixers a 99-91 defeat Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. The loss sent the Sixers to 0-15, matching the 1972-73 team for the worst start in club history.

Turning point
With the Sixers trailing 91-89 and 51 seconds remaining on the clock, Tony Wroten found himself stuck at the top of the key with nowhere to go with the ball. The guard fired an errant pass for his eighth turnover of the game.

The Nets moved the ball around on the next possession and found Kevin Garnett for an open 19-footer that splashed in to end the Sixers’ comeback bid.

Follow the leader
Joe Johnson led all scorers with 21 points. Brook Lopez added 19 points for Brooklyn, while Deron Williams had 17 points and 10 assists.

K.J. McDaniels played 33 minutes and tied Wroten for the team high in points with 18.

Stat-egic
Prior to the game, Sixers head coach Brett Brown said two areas of games have been especially poor for the team. They were the final three minutes of the first quarter and the first six minutes of the third quarter.

Brown said he was going to alter his rotations slightly in an effort to improve those stretches and it worked.

The Sixers outscored the Nets 9-7 in the final three minutes of the first quarter. And while the Nets did score the first nine points of the third quarter, the Sixers won the period, 26-23.

Take a bow
Hollis Thompson was penciled in during training camp as a starter this season. He started 41 games last season and 11 of 14 games so far this year. However, Thompson found himself as a reserve for the fourth straight game on Wednesday night.

The second-year guard looked more comfortable in the role as he played 29 minutes and made 5 of 7 field goal attempts for 14 points.

What's next?
The Sixers return to action on Saturday to host the Dallas Mavericks at the Wells Fargo Center. While the Sixers are off until then, the Mavs will be coming in on the second night of a back-to-back after facing the Toronto Raptors on Friday.

The Sixers will certainly have their minds on some sort of redemption after being destroyed, 123-70, by the Mavs on Nov. 13.
