BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON -- Brett Brown wanted to see more fight on Friday against the Wizards. The Sixers should show fire, grit hustle … everything that could go into bouncing back from a blowout loss to the Hawks on Wednesday.

“Just a lack of competitiveness,” Brown said Friday at shootaround. “It’s the single thing that bothers me the most.”

Brown got that competitiveness, only it came too late in a 106-94 loss.

John Wall fueled the Wizards with a triple-double to hand the Sixers their fourth straight defeat.

The Wizards led by 20 points after the first quarter. Their early surge was led by a frontcourt-backcourt attack of guards Wall and Bradley Beal with center Marcin Gortat, who combined for 26 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in the quarter. The Wizards shot 64 percent from the field, compared to 30.4 percent from the Sixers. They also outrebounded the Sixers, 17-9.

The Sixers responded in the second by outscoring the Wizards, 29-22. Isaiah Canaan scored 11 points off the bench. Still, their smallest deficit was 11 and they trailed 60-47 at halftime.

Halftime reenergized the Sixers. Down 25 points halfway through the third, they went on an 11-0 run and closed out the quarter on a 21-6 surge. The Sixers once again outscored the Wizards in the quarter, 25-22, and cut the deficit down to 10, 82-72. Ish Smith dropped 14 points in the third.

The Wizards took back control of the game in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Turning point
The Wizards went on a 13-2 run early in the first to take a 17-6 lead. Beal scored seven points during that stretch. They pushed their advantage up to 20 by the end of the quarter, 38-18.

Injury update
Smith rolled his left ankle late in the fourth quarter. He said he probably would have tried to return to the game, but the staff told him to "be smart" and sit out the remainder of it. "I don't know," he said of playing Saturday against the Nets. "I should be fine, I should be. But I just rolled it, sprained it. I'll probably feel it tomorrow but I'm fine."

Rookie Richaun Holmes sat out on Friday with a right ankle sprain.

Limited turnovers
The Sixers gave up 29 points off 24 turnovers to the Hawks. They clamped down against the Wizards with only 14 turnovers (13 points).

Block party continues
Jerami Grant rejected two shots. He is up to five straight games with a block.

Up next
The Sixers will return home to host the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday, Los Angeles Cippers on Monday and Sacramento Kings on Wednesday before the All-Star break.
