DALLAS -- Free agent center JaVale McGee has signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

McGee has averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in his seven NBA seasons. The 7-footer has played 382 games with Washington, Denver and Philadelphia.

The Mavericks announced the signing Thursday.

McGee was waived in March by Philadelphia, two weeks after he had been acquired in a trade from the Nuggets. He averaged 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in his 23 combined games last season for the two teams.

Washington selected McGee 18th overall in 2008 after he declared for early entry in the draft after his sophomore season at Nevada.

McGee's father, George Montgomery, was a second-round draft pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 1985. His mother, Pamela McGee, played in the WNBA.

Lakers: Holmes signs multiyear deal
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Undrafted rookie forward Jonathan Holmes has agreed to a multiyear deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers announced the deal Thursday.

Holmes spent the past four seasons at Texas, averaging 10.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a senior. He plays a versatile two-way game, with a solid 3-point shot and strong defensive instincts.

After going undrafted, Holmes averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Boston Celtics' entry in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas last month.

Holmes will compete for a roster spot in training camp with the rebuilding Lakers, who are coming off the worst season in franchise history. Los Angeles drafted D'Angelo Russell, Larry Nance Jr. and Anthony Brown in June, while 2014 first-round pick Julius Randle is returning from injury.

Timberwolves: Prince inks deal
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves are bringing in another veteran to tutor their young pups.

A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that Tayshaun Prince has agreed to terms with the Wolves on a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum. The person requested anonymity because the contract has not been signed.

The 35-year-old Prince is entering his 14th season. He played for Wolves coach and President Flip Saunders in Detroit.

Saunders has wanted to add veterans to a young roster that includes Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns and Zach LaVine. He has also brought in Kevin Garnett to work with the young big men and Andre Miller to help the guards.

Prince averaged 7.5 points in 58 games last season for the Pistons, Grizzlies and Celtics.
