Sixers player evaluation: Glenn Robinson III

Share

Over the next couple of weeks we will evaluate the Sixers' roster following the 18-64 season. Up next is Glenn Robinson III.

Position: Small forward
Status: Unrestricted free agent

Signature game of 2014-15
Robinson scored a career-high 10 points twice with the Sixers. He logged a high of 36 minutes in the season finale against Miami on April 15 with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Robinson in 2014-15
Robinson had the ignominy of playing for both the Timberwolves and Sixers in his first NBA season. He was waived on March 5 and picked up by the Sixers two days later. Meanwhile, Robinson’s teams went a combined 34-130 last season and in the 35 games in which he appeared in, his teams went 2-33.

He averaged 2.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 7.5 minutes last season, but those totals increased to 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 10 games with the Sixers.

Prospectus
Son of former Sixer Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson, the rookie remembers hanging out with his dad and interacting with Allen Iverson. However, Robinson may not eclipse his dad’s 42-game career with the Sixers. At 6-foot-7, 220 pounds, Robinson would have to fight to elbow his way into a role on the wing. His shooting and rebounding aren’t good enough to unseat any of the players the Sixers likely will have back, and he isn’t versatile enough to play in the backcourt.

Nevertheless, the Robinsons are the first father-son duo to suit up for the Sixers.

On Glenn Robinson III …
“[I’m] excited to have him. We liked him and paid attention to him a lot in the draft. Part of the plan is identifying young people who can be keepers. He ticks a lot boxes, so it kind of being a no-brainer on why we would be interested in him.”
