The Sixers continued their roster overhaul during the offseason. Over the next three weeks leading up to training camp, we will get to know the team's new players. Today, we look at Jerami Grant.

Jerami Grant
Position: Forward
Height/Weight: 6-8, 210
NBA experience: Rookie
Last team: Syracuse

Jerami Grant had high hopes of being a first-round pick in June’s NBA draft. Instead, Grant slipped into the second round, which allowed the Sixers to select him at No. 39.

Grant spent two years playing for Jim Boeheim at Syracuse. As a sophomore, he averaged 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds a game.

Grant's best performance for the Orange came last February in a two-point overtime win over Duke. He scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He also shot 10 of 10 at the foul line.

Playing in 11 summer league games for the Sixers, Grant averaged 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds. He shot just 33.8 percent from the floor.

Fitting in with the Sixers
Grant begins his pro career without a clear-cut position. Does he have the skill set to play small forward? Does he have the size and strength to be a power forward?

It is interesting to note that Grant's father, Harvey, who is also 6-foot-8, played both forward positions over the course of his 11-year NBA career.

Power forward minutes are available with the Sixers after the departure of Thaddeus Young, but Grant will encounter competition from his teammates who see the same opportunity in Brett Brown's frontcourt rotation.

Tidbits
Grant is one of four children and they are all boys. His father believes of all the Grant men, including Harvey and his twin brother Horace, that Jerami is the most athletic.

That is saying something considering Grant’s father and uncle were NBA first-round selections in the late 1980s who played a combined 23 seasons in the league. His two older brothers played Division I basketball and his younger brother is a Division I prospect currently playing at DeMatha High School in Maryland.

At Syracuse, Grant wore No. 3. The Sixers retired that number last March in honor of Allen Iverson's career.

Playing in both the Orlando and Las Vegas summer leagues, Grant wore the No. 39 to signify his draft position.

Grant could consider following in his father's footsteps and wear No. 44.
