The Sixers continued their roster overhaul during the offseason. Over the next three weeks leading up to training camp, we will get to know the team's new players. Today, we look at Pierre Jackson.

Pierre Jackson
Position: Guard
Height/Weight: 5-10, 176
NBA experience: Rookie
Last team: Idaho Stampede (NBDL)

Pierre Jackson made several stops on his basketball journey before the Sixers signed him this summer to a partially guaranteed contract.

The franchise did so despite Jackson rupturing his Achilles during the Orlando Pro Summer League.

The diminutive point guard began his collegiate career at the College of Southern Idaho. After two years and an NJCAA Division I national championship, Jackson moved on to play at Baylor University.

As a senior with the Bears, he averaged 19.8 points and 7.1 assists.

With his scoring reputation solidified, Jackson was selected No. 42 overall in the 2013 draft by the Sixers. However, later that night he was traded to New Orleans, along with Jrue Holiday, in the Nerlens Noel deal.

Jackson never played for the Pelicans, instead spending last season in the NBDL. He led the league in scoring, averaging 29.1 points a game.

On draft night this year, the Sixers selected Russ Smith with the No. 47 overall pick and then traded him to New Orleans to get back Jackson.

Fitting in with the Sixers
Jackson's Achilles injury will likely have him sidelined for the entire season. Earning a role as Michael Carter-Williams' backup will have to wait until next fall.

Jackson brings a different style of play to the Sixers than MCW.

Carter-Williams is long and lanky. Jackson is small and explosive.

Both players have good court vision. Jackson averaged 6.2 assists a night last year with the Stampede, ranking ninth in the D-League. Carter-Williams averaged 6.3 assists, tied for 12th in the NBA.

Defending taller point guards at the NBA level will be Jackson's greatest challenge when he returns to the hardwood.

Tidbits
In February of this year, Jackson set an NBDL single-game scoring record with 58 points against the Texas Legends with 27 of those coming in the fourth quarter.

Jackson lists the Nuggets’ Nate Robinson as a person who most influenced his athletic career. Robinson is 5-foot-9 and entering his 10th NBA season.

If he weren't pursuing his NBA career, Jackson said he would be a personal trainer.
