The point guard position had been in flux for the Sixers until the acquisition of Ish Smith in December. Two months later, the team has looked into other options at the 1-spot.

The Sixers contacted the Hawks and talked about point guards Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroder, but did not make a trade offer, a league source confirmed to CSNPhilly.com's John Gonzalez on Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported the story, noting the Sixers are not expected to “make a serious push” for either.

Under contract through the remainder of this season, Smith is averaging 15.8 points, a team-high 7.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds since joining the Sixers. All three averages are higher than Teague's this season.

Teague (15.1 points, 5.4 assists, 2.6 rebounds), a starter, has another year left on his contract after this season at $8 million per season. The reserve Schroder (10.6 points, 4.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds) is set to earn $2.7M next season with a qualifying offer the following year.

The Sixers’ biggest trade pieces are ones they may not be ready to part with. Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor are enticing young bigs, and the Sixers are still working through how they can play the two together. Both are natural centers and Noel has been playing out of position this season. Until more is known about the future of Joel Embiid, who has yet to play in an NBA game, moving Noel or Okafor is a risky move.

The Hawks have reportedly been contemplating the futures of Teague and Al Horford, according to ESPN.com.

They are two key members of the Hawks' starting lineup, but the team currently stands fourth in the East (30-24), far off from their mark last season.
