ORLANDO, Fla. – Free agents can begin signing contracts with teams today. LeBron James is the most coveted free agent, of course, and his destination is unknown. Carmelo Anthony reportedly appears to be favoring a return to the Knicks, and Chris Bosh, well his decision could affect the Sixers.
According to LibertyBallers.com, the Rockets and Sixers have agreed in principle on a trade that would send point guard Jeremy Lin and a first-round pick to Philadelphia to create cap space for Houston to add a maximum-contract player such as Bosh. Multiple reports earlier in the week said the Rockets have offered Bosh a max contract in the event they could trade Lin, who is owed $15 million next season with $8.4 million of that counting against the cap.
However, an NBA source said the Sixers "remain an option [for Houston], but their cap space may prove too expensive." The source also said they believe the Rockets have other options when it comes to moving Lin.
Prior to the Sixers’ 92-86 win over the Brooklyn Nets in the Orlando Pro Summer League on Wednesday, team president and general manager Sam Hinkie offered his guarded response to the team's involvement in any potential deals.
"We are active in conversations with a lot of teams and a lot of agents," Hinkie said. "Sometimes that leads to transactions and sometimes it doesn't. It will be interesting to see how the next few days play out.
“The best players in the NBA, just like the best people in any market, want to work with great people. They want to be around greatness wherever they can find it. It won't surprise me if that becomes a big part of what we hear about in the next few days."
