Source: Sixers will keep Carl Landry and Jason Thompson

Second-year shooting guard Nik Stauskas was the clear centerpiece of the Sixers' trade with the Kings Wednesday night, but they also intend to keep veteran big men Jason Thompson and Carl Landry, CSNPhilly.com's John Finger confirmed.

The Kings' main motivation for making the reported deal, which can't become official until July 9, was shedding the salaries of Thompson and Landry. Both players have two years remaining on their current contracts for a combined figure of $26,256,250, according to Basketball-Reference.

Landry's remaining salary is fully guaranteed. Thompson's is not — he'll make just over $6.4 million this season, but only $2.65 million of his 2016-17 money is guaranteed if he is waived before June 26, 2016.

The Sixers do have a surplus of big men, but both players offer useful skills.

The 31-year-old Landry (6-9/248) is an undersized power forward but a decent offensive player. He averaged 16.8 points back in 2009-10 for the Rockets and Kings and has averaged 10.9 for his career. He's a career 53 percent shooter who has made 79 percent of his free throws.

Thompson, 28, hasn't been fully utilized by a Kings organization that has become a circus. He averaged 11.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in his first two NBA seasons but has seen his minutes and role decrease through the years. He averaged 6.1 points and 6.5 boards last season.

Thompson's per-36 averages have always been impressive, so he could be a handy bench piece for the Sixers, perhaps an even better version of Thomas Robinson.
