Summer League: Balanced Sixers rip Rockets

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Nerlens Noel made his second appearance in the Orlando Pro Summer League on Tuesday night when the Sixers hosted the Rockets.

Noel’s statistics were not as impressive as his debut when he scored 19 points, but that didn’t matter as the Sixers rolled to a 92-71 win. The Sixers improved their record to 2-1 with the victory.

Noel finished with eight points, six rebounds, two steals and three of the Sixers' eight blocked shots. The big man did have some highlight moments, like when he followed one of his steals with a breakaway slam and had a two-handed flush off an inbounds play after a timeout.

The Sixers were led in scoring by Casper Ware, who had 16 points. K.J. McDaniels finished with 15 points and five rebounds.

Hollis Thompson returned to action after sitting out Sunday's game because of soreness in his left knee. Thompson had a much better shooting performance against the Rockets. He was 5 for 10, including 4 for 7 from three-point range, totaling 14 points.

Thompson was 2 for 12 from the field on Saturday.

There were five players in double-figure scoring for the Sixers, including St. John's product JaKarr Sampson, who added 13 points to go with eight rebounds and two blocks.

Jerami Grant had his best performance of summer league so far, scoring 11 points as a reserve.

St. Joe's alum Ronald Roberts Jr. had another solid game, finishing with nine points and four rebounds.

Arsalan Kazemi made his 2014 summer league debut. The No. 54 pick from a year ago was not very effective, but he also flew in from Iran on Tuesday. Kazemi was scoreless in seven minutes and he did not grab a rebound.

Sitting on the Sixers’ bench next to the coaching staff was Thaddeus Young. The seven-year veteran brought his family to Florida to visit Disney World. Young decided to leave the happiest place on earth for a couple hours and watch a few fellow teammates.

The Sixers return to action on Wednesday night when they face the Brooklyn Nets.
