BOX SCORE

The Wizards were one of four teams that entered Wednesday without a win with one of their three defeats coming at the hands of the Sixers.

The Sixers were unable to keep the Wizards out of the win column with a 116-102 loss at the Welks Fargo Center. The defeat was the Sixers’ second in a row and dropped their record to 3-2.

The Sixers allowed the Wizards to tie a building record with 18 three-pointers in the game.

Turning point
The Sixers allowed Washington to score an astounding 39 first-quarter points, three more than they allowed the Warriors to score on Monday in the opening period.

The Sixers were down 12 points heading into the second quarter and while they cut the deficit to as little as three on several occasions, they could not sustain the energy used to rally back.

Follow the leader
John Wall followed up his 26-point performance Friday against the Sixers with 24 points on Wednesday. This time around Wall’s big quarter was the third when he scored 12 points. He drained 3 of 5 shots from long range in the third quarter and made 3 of 4 free throws.

Marcin Gortat and Bradley Beal each chipped in 17 points for the Wizards.

Evan Turner came into Wednesday’s game in the NBA’s top 20 in scoring average at 21.8 points per game. Turner scored 24 points against the Wizards on 9-of-14 shooting.

Spencer Hawes had his third double-double in five games, scoring 23 and grabbing 13 rebounds. The center also had five assists.

Stat-egic
The Sixers’ inability to defend the three-point arc and the knack for turning the ball over proved to be a deadly combination in this one.

The Sixers made just six shots from three-point range, while the Wizards hit 18 of 33 (54.5 percent).

Meanwhile, the Sixers had 21 turnovers that led to 22 points for the Wizards.

Take a bow
Michael Carter-Williams started the game 2 of 11 from the floor. The rookie point guard battled through his early struggles to finish 8 of 21 for 19 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds.

What’s next?
The Sixers will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday evening in the first game of a home-and-home series.

Kyrie Irving is more than capable of stealing the show. The All-Star point guard entered Wednesday averaging 15.3 points, 6.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game.

However, a big focus will be centered on Andrew Bynum’s return to Philadelphia. The center never took the court last season after being traded to the Sixers, but said he plans to play on Friday. Bynum is coming off the bench to start the season for the Cavs, averaging 6.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 12.3 minutes per game.
