The Sixers announced on Friday that second-year forward/center Arnett Moultrie underwent surgery on his left ankle Thursday and will be out until some after the new year.

Moultrie, 22, played limited minutes in first NBA season, on the floor for just 11.5 per night in 47 games. He previously injured his left ankle during a pre-draft workout in 2012, a sprain that caused him to miss summer-league play once drafted and dogged him throughout the early portion of last season.

When on the floor, Moultrie averaged 3.7 points and 3.1 rebounds.

The Sixers selected Moultrie 27th overall out of Mississippi State after originally selecting forward Maurice Harkless 15th. The Sixers traded a future first-round pick to the Miami Heat for the rights to Moultrie.

The Sixers also announced Friday that Kwame Brown, who played in a whopping 22 games last year for 12.2 minutes per, suffered a right hamstring strain during offseason workouts and is headed for a second opinion.

The former No. 1 selection picked up his player-option over the summer and in his the final season of a two-year, $6 million deal with the Sixers.

Without Molutrie and perhaps Brown, the remaining big men currently with the Sixers are Thaddeus Young, Lavoy Allen, Spencer Hawes, Tim Olbrecht and Royce White.

Hollis Thompson signs
Finally, the team confirmed the signing of former Georgetown swingman Hollis Thompson on Friday.

Thompson went undrafted in 2012 after finishing his junior season All-Big East honorable mention, averaging 12.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

He enjoyed a brief stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder's D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers, before being released last November.

He joins Khalif Wyatt, Vander Blue, Rodney Williams and Darius Morris as recent signees who will participate in camp.
