The Sixers were able to hold off the Wizards on Wednesday night for a 92-84 victory at the Wells Fargo Center (see story).
While the team succeeded overall, Evan Turner struggled with just six points on 3-for-11 shooting in another effort that showed his inconsistency (see story).
Now, let's look at some other news and notes from around the NBA.
Rose going full contact in practice
Derrick Rose has taken the next step toward returning to game action.
Rose is now taking full contact in practice with the Chicago Bulls, according to ESPNChicago.com (via ProBasketballTalk). Rose is still rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered in last season's playoffs against the Sixers.
“He’s full contact, yeah,” Bull head coach Tom Thibodeau said. “He can do all the cutting, he can do shooting, he can go off the dribble. So it’s just a matter of him getting acclimated to playing in a game situation.”
Pierce wants to stay in Boston
With Rajon Rondo dealing with his own ACL tear, the Boston Celtics are forced to look long and hard at their roster.
GM Danny Ainge is always looking to pull the trigger on a deal, but would he trade longtime Celtic Paul Pierce to begin the franchise's new era? Pierce hopes that's not the case, reports the Boston Herald (via ProBasketballTalk)
“You know, I want to retire as a Celtic,” Pierce said. “That’s been my longtime goal. But it’s not in my control. The organization, they make their decisions, but it’s something I desire.”
