NBA Notes: Westbrook out through All-Star break

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook had arthroscopic knee surgery Friday and will be sidelined until after the All-Star break.

Westbrook will miss at least 27 games.

"He will be missed," coach Scott Brooks said before Oklahoma City's game Friday night against the Charlotte Bobcats. "Obviously we are a very good team with him, and without him we're still going to be a very good team."

General manager Sam Presti said in a news release earlier in the day that Westbrook has been playing pain-free, but "recently had experienced increased swelling" in his right knee.

"After consultation and consideration by his surgeon in Los Angeles, a plan was established to monitor the swelling that included a series of scheduled MRIs," Presti said in the release. "On the most recent MRI it was determined by the surgeon that there was an area of concern that had not previously existed, nor was detectable in the previous procedures, and it was necessary to evaluate Russell further. The consulting physician determined that arthroscopic surgery was necessary to address the swelling that was taking place."

Brooks said Reggie Jackson, who is averaging 12.5 points, will start. Jeremy Lamb will also see increased playing time in Westbrook's absence (see full story).

Hawks: Horford out indefinitely
ATLANTA -- Al Horford, the Atlanta Hawks' leading scorer and rebounder, is out indefinitely with a torn right pectoral muscle.

Horford left Thursday night's 127-125 double-overtime win at Cleveland in the first overtime with the injury and did not return. The Hawks say an MRI and examination on Friday by Dr. Michael Bernot in Atlanta revealed the complete tear of the muscle.

Hawks general manager Danny Ferry said the team will complete its "due diligence" to determine the next step for Horford.

Horford leads the team with 18.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

Forward DeMarre Carroll is day to day with a sprained right thumb (see full story).

Grizzlies: Randolph fined for criticizing refs
NEW YORK -- The NBA has fined Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph $25,000 for publicly criticizing officials after Memphis lost 100-92 in Houston.

Rod Thorn, president of basketball operations, announced the fine Friday.

Randolph was unhappy Thursday night that James Harden, who was 2 for 9 from the floor, went to the free throw line 25 times. Harden was 9 of 11 at the line in the fourth quarter and became the first player in NBA history to register 27 points on two or fewer field goals.

The Grizzlies forward was given a technical late in the game.

Afterward, Randolph said the officials made the matchup eight-against-five and dictated the game with what he called "horrible refereeing."
