NFL Notes: Colin Kaepernick defends reputation

SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is defending his reputation.

Kaepernick put out a statement on his Twitter account Friday, a day after his name was linked to a Miami police report involving a woman who passed out in a hotel and later woke up in a hospital not knowing how she got there.

Referring to some media reports on the situation, Kaepernick said: "I take great pride in who I am and what I do, but I guess sometimes you have to deal with someone who makes things up." He told fans their faith in him is not misplaced.

Police say Kaepernick, teammate Quinton Patton and Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette were with the woman earlier this month at a Miami hotel where Lockette lives. The police say it's too early to determine whether a crime was committed.

Browns: Match offer sheet for center Mack
CLEVELAND -- The Browns have matched Jacksonville's offer sheet for Pro Bowl center Alex Mack and will keep one of their top players.

Mack signed a five-year, $42 million offer from the Jaguars on Friday, and the Browns matched the deal just a few hours later.

The 28-year-old Mack will receive $26 million guaranteed in the deal, which he can void after two seasons. Also, the Browns are not allowed to tag or trade him.

Cleveland's decision to keep Mack ends a strange saga that began when the club placed a $10 million transition tag on him at the outset of free agency. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam repeatedly pledged is commitment to hanging on to Mack and kept his word.

Mack has not missed a snap in five seasons with the Browns, who drafted him in the first round in 2009 (see full story).

Chiefs: Bowe seeks to have evidence suppressed
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An attorney for Kansas City Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe has filed a motion to suppress evidence related to his arrest for possessing marijuana.

Bowe is scheduled to appear Wednesday on a misdemeanor drug charge in the Kansas City suburb of Riverside, where he was pulled over Nov. 10 for speeding. During the stop, an officer detected a strong marijuana odor in the car.

Bowe was arrested after an officer found a black bag with his wallet, driver's license and two containers of what the officer suspected to be pot.

Bowe told a local radio station he thought he had been racially profiled, but he took that back Friday in a statement to The Kansas City Star and said he said he was treated with respect during the stop.

NFL: Hernandez associated indicted for murder
FALL RIVER, Mass. -- Two associates of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez were indicted Friday on murder charges in the shooting death of a man last summer about a mile from Hernandez's home, prosecutors said.

A grand jury in Bristol County returned separate indictments against Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace in the June 2013 killing of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd, District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter said.

Ortiz and Wallace, who are from Bristol, Conn., where Hernandez grew up, had been charged previously with accessory to murder after the fact and had pleaded not guilty. They had been ordered held on $500,000 bail on the older charges.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murder in the killing of Lloyd, a 27-year-old Boston resident who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins.

Jenkins, who testified before the grand jury, has been charged with perjury in the case. Hernandez's cousin Tanya Singleton, who refused to testify, has been charged with criminal contempt and conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact. Both have pleaded not guilty (see full story).
