The Sixers have put together a summer league roster that has more than the two interesting names that were selected on draft night and are capable of participating right now: Michael Carter-Williams and Arsalan Kazemi.
Former Kentucky Wildcat Nerlans Noel was acquired in a draft night trade that sent All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to New Orleans, but the league is still processing the trade and it’s not yet official.
Noel is recovering from knee surgery on a torn-ACL suffered in college, and would not be able to participate in summer league anyhow. He’s expected to be out until at least December.
Temple’s Khalif Wyatt, who went undrafted, is on the roster as are second-year players Arnett Moultrie and Justin Holiday. Carter-Williams’ Syracuse teammate James Southerland is on the 13-man roster, and two NBDL products: Micheal Eric, a former Temple Owl, and Travis Leslie.
The six-day summer league includes 25 games played by the nine participating teams: Boston, Brooklyn, Detroit, Indiana, Miami, Oklahoma City, Utah and the Sixers.
This year’s summer league has a different twist. In the past, games were playing without a champion crowned. That changes this year, starting next week.
Each team will play five games leading up to the final day of play. Throughout the week, three points will be awarded to each winning team and one point for every quarter won.
The point system will determine the bracket that will play itself out a week from Friday with one team left standing -- similar to the NCAA tournament except with nine teams instead of 64.
The Sixers will be coached by current assistant Michael Currey, while the games will be played at Amway Center, home to the Orlando Magic.
