Stan Van Gundy

College: SUNY-Brockport

Coaching career: Castleton State College, Wisconsin, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic

Résumé: A two-time All-Star Game coach who led the Magic to the NBA Finals, Van Gundy is likely a candidate to coach a team in a better situation than the 76ers. Expect Van Gundy to be very sought after this offseason.

Potential fit with Sixers

Dei Lynam: According to sources Stan Van Gundy expressed no interest in becoming the Sixers next head coach when it became available in late April. Does the hiring of Sam Hinkie as president and general manager change that? Possibly. Van Gundy’s coaching winning percentage in the NBA is .641. Three of the seven full seasons he coached he won 59 games with the Heat and the Magic. His time in Orlando ended with much drama largely in part because Dwight Howard wanted out and reportedly wanted Van Gundy fired. Howard was traded to the Lakers and Van Gundy spent the past season on the radio. Van Gundy can coach and he will speak his mind. If he has had a change of heart he is more then worth a conversation.

John Finger:
Not a chance in hell he comes here.

John Gonzalez: No chance he comes here. The only way either Van Gundy gets back into coaching is with the right situation. The Sixers are well removed from anything remotely resembling the right situation.
