The first game back after a long road trip like the one the Sixers just concluded is often considered the last game of the journey as tired legs and fatigued minds often take the home floor.
That was the certainly the case on Tuesday night when the Sixers were blown out at the Wells Fargo Center by the Brooklyn Nets, 109-89.
The Sixers have now lost four straight games to drop their record to 15-21 on the season.
The Nets improved their mark to 20-15 and are 6-1 under interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo.
Turning pointThe Sixers trailed 48-47 at the half. With 5:15 to play in the third quarter, they trailed 69-51. When the quarter concluded, the Sixers had been outscored 35-14 and allowed the Nets to connect on 14 of 19 field goal attempts in the period, including 4 of 5 from behind the arc.
Follow the leaderThe Nets had five players finish in double-figure scoring led by Deron Williams 22 points. Joe Johnson had 15 points, while Andray Blatche came off the bench to score 20.
Jrue Holiday led the Sixers with 19 points and eight assists. Spencer Hawes was the lone other Sixer to score in double figures with 14 points.
Stat-egicThe Nets outrebounded the Sixers, 50-32. Brooklyn had 22 second-chance points to the Sixers eight. And once again there was great disparity at the foul line with the Nets shooting 19 of 22 from the charity stripe, while the Sixers were just 6 for 10.
Take a bowReggie Evans played two seasons for the Sixers from 2007-2009. He averaged 7.5 rebounds in 23 minutes per game during his first season in Philadelphia. The following year, Evans averaged 4.6 boards in 14 minutes a night.
In the last six meetings against the Sixers, Evans has grabbed a combined 88 rebounds, including a career-high 23 boards Tuesday night in 26 minutes.
Whats next?The Sixers play at Toronto Wednesday night. Back in November, the Sixers beat the Raptors in 93-83 at Air Canada Centre. The Sixers outscored the Raptors 32-7 in the second quarter to lead 52-33 at the half.
Holiday, Thaddeus Young and Nick Young each scored 16 points in that matchup, while Toronto was led in scoring by Andrea Bargnanis 23. Jose Calderon had a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists.
The Raptors are 12-22 on the season. However, they have won seven of their last 10 games.
