Sixers Performance Review: Andre Iguodala

Note: Over the next couple of weeks we will recap the Sixers' season by evaluating each member of the roster.
Andre Iguodala
Position: Small Forward
Status: Under contract through 2013-14 with final year Player Option
Signature game of 2012
The Sixers would not have made it to the Eastern Conference semifinals had it not been for Andre Iguodala and the two free throws he made with 2.2 seconds remaining in Game 6 against the Chicago Bulls.

Chicago big man Omer Asik missed not one, but two free throws with seven seconds left on the clock. Iguodala rebounded the second miss and drove end to end, attacking the rim and getting fouled in the process.

It seemed a bold move at the time because Iguodala shot a career -low .617 from the foul line during the regular seasonand was even worse than that during fourth quarters. But In Game 6, he had a calmness to him and a confidence shooting those freebies from 15 feet.

The first free throw tied the game at 78. The second brought the final score to 79-78 in favor of the home team.

Iguodala led all scorers that night with 20 points, and for the first time in his eight-year career, he advanced to the second round of the postseason.
Iguodala in 2011-12
Iguodala's play this season earned him his first All-Star Game appearance, and while he was not named to the NBAs first or second team all-defense, he did headline one of the best defensive teams in basketball. The Sixers ranked third in fewest points allowed, fourth in opponents lowest field-goal percentage and sixth in opponents lowest three-point field-goal percentage.

Statistically, people will always say Iguodala doesnt score enough to be the 29th-highest- paid player in the NBA. His 12.4 points per game ranked fourth on the Sixers, behind Lou Williams, Jrue Holiday and Thaddeus Young. Iguodala did average 6.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists as well as 1.7 steals. He also shot a career-best .394 from three-point range.

Iguodala is one of 20 players invited to compete for a roster spot on this years Olympic team. He did play on the national team that won the gold medal at the World Championships two summers ago, but he came back that following season and battled injuries all year.

Iguodala is 28-years-old. Having played 62 regular-season games and 13 playoff games, his body might not respond well if, in fact, he does represent his country at the games in London this August.
Stay or go?
One of my goals is to keep pushing for it a Sixers playoff run and not just be satisfied with getting there just one time. I would like to establish ourselves in the Eastern Conference as a team that is going to be a threat every year. I feel like we have the pieces to get there we just have to continue to improve. -- Iguodala
