The tweets out of Friday's Sixers practice are beginning to point to what many fans have thought for a long time.

That Andrew Bynum will not play for the Philadelphia 76ers — at least not this year.

Although there's still 26 games to play and Bynum's statement to reporters was not definitive, it's the first time he's suggested anything other than his intention to play this season.

As first tweeted by the Delco Times' Chris Vito:

"Now it's getting late. I don't know." --Bynum, on whether he'll play this season

— Christopher A. Vito (@ChrisVito) March 1, 2013

That quote followed this report from the Inquirer's John Mitchell:

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Andrew Bynum has experienced some swelling in the knee since practice last Friday.

— john mitchell (@JmitchInquirer) March 1, 2013

Speaking with reporters, Bynum confirmed the swelling and said he has not participated in any basketball activity since last Friday.

Then came the real damning stuff:

When asked if he's worried about perception that he doesn't want to play in pain, Bynum said "that's true, I don't want to play in pain"

Andrew Bynum said he doesn't worry about perceptions for sitting out all year. "I'm 25. It's my life." #sixers

Bynum was 100 percent sure he'd play this year. Said that a little over a week ago. And now? Now that 100 percent has vanished #Sixerstalk

Collins on Bynum: "... he’s incredibly disappointed that he’s not able to play. I want our people, our fans to know that." #Sixers

There has to be a prop bet out there about whether Bynum will see the floor this year. And, right now, you should all be running to your bookie and/or online oddsmaker.

UPDATE: Science is looking at it:

Bynum:"They just grew cartilage in a petri dish…science is looking at it. Doctors are looking at it...they’re going to come up w something"

— John Gonzalez (@gonzoCSN) March 1, 2013

I assume he means this Science.
