Sixers Select St. John's Forward Moe Harkless

With the 15th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select, from St. John's University, Moe Harkless.

A 6-foot-8 forward, Harkless, the 11th leading scorer in the Big East last season and the conference's Rookie of the Year, averaged 15.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Red Storm.

Harkless played power forward in college, but projects more as a three in the NBA. If that's the case, he'll need to dramatically improve his perimeter play. He shot 44.5
percent from the field last season -- pretty impressive -- but just 20 percent in limited
attempts from behind the arc.

Though it's an incomplete comparison, he's not unlike a young Thaddeus Young, as a long, athletic, leaping swingman who needs to improve his shot but, in the meantime, is capable of doing damage in transition and will certainly go hard to the basket. Of course, the Sixers already have a few of those guys, including Young himself, not to mention Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner.

To provide some context, Chris Broussard was already speculating on the ESPN broadcast about Iguodala's future as a Sixer. Then again, Iggy trade rumors are nothing new and there's nothing about this that necessarily screams an immediate roster change is on the way.

We'll have more as the night goes on. The Sixers have two more picks this evening in the second round -- the 45th and 54th overall.
