Ryan Howard is not in Ryne Sandberg's starting lineup for the third-straight game. Darin Ruf will start at first base.

Sandberg has thrown the word platoon around. Ruben Amaro says there is no chance the Phillies will release Howard. The Phils are playing mind games to motivate him? And the Phillies are reportedly "working hard" to attempt to trade him to an AL team.

Shockingly, nobody wants him.

You can come at the Ryan Howard decline from a gazillion angles but none of them leave you with a positive answer.

The Phillies kick off a mostly meaningless series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park. We'll be watching mostly to see how some of the trade chips perform and also to see Santa Claus show up tonight for Christmas in July (seriously, that's a thing that's happening tonight).

The $25 million per year man currently stinks at playing the game of baseball and is sitting on the bench on a regular basis now. That is sad.

Eagles camp tomorrow. Happy weekend!
