Have you been waiting for the Flyers to introduce a new alternate sweater so you can be the first of your friends to buy it and be the coolest guy around?
Don’t all raise your hands at once now.
But if you’ve been waiting for that moment, your lucky day is coming soon.
During a town hall event for season ticket holders last night, Flyers chief operating officer Shawn Tilger told attendees that the team will introduce a new alternate sweater sometime during the 2014-15 season.
No details on the sweater’s design or a date for its unveiling were released.
It will be the first time the Flyers will have an alternate sweater since the 2009-10 season when their once-primary black sweaters were worn for a limited amount of games.
You may recall the team’s current retro-based orange home sweater was introduced as an alternate during the 2008-09 season but became so popular that the team made the sweater its primary home uniform the following season.
Personally, I always liked the 2012 Winter Classic design and wouldn’t mind seeing it return as an alternate. The captain and assistant captain keystone patches are awesome. I’ve been trying to find that patch on eBay forever.
Plus, there’s precedent for the team using a Winter Classic jersey again. The Flyers current road sweater is the one the team wore in the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park in Boston. They made it the primary road sweater at the start of the following season.
The team could always go back to black, too. While I never liked black as the Flyers’ primary sweater color, I thought it made for a cool alternate to wear every now and then to switch things up.
While not confirmed, smart money says the jersey will be available around Black Friday, just in time for the holiday rush.
A likely to be nationally-televised game against the defending Eastern Conference champion New York Rangers would be a nice stage to debut a new sweater, right?
What would you guys like to see the Flyers rock as an alternate this upcoming season? A retro look or something new and fresh?
