Former teammate says nice things about Tim Tebow

When we last mentioned Tim Tebow on this here website it was in regards to the Eagles proposing a new two-point conversion rule that would push the play up to the one yard line. A move that many believed could favor a Chip Kelly offense with Tebow behind center.

Well, the NFL didn't adopt the Eagles proposal exactly, but they did adjust the rule in a way that could still favor a Tebow-led offense if the coach wanted to show some... guts and go for two instead of kicking from the 15 yard line.

The New York Daily News caught up with Tebow's former teammate in Denver, Eric Decker, who believes that Tebow can make a place for himself in this league even if it's not at quarterback exactly.

“Chip’s been doing a lot of stuff this year, so I think anything’s possible,” Decker told the Daily News. “Really, (Tebow) can create his own role. I know he wants to be head quarterback, but he can create a role for himself that can help a team in many ways (whether it’s) the two-point conversion if it’s moved up or a goal-line package. He has the athletic ability to be a personal punt protector… and can play other positions. They’ll figure out a way to utilize him if it’s going to help them be a better football team.”

“His game is unique. It’s special,” Decker said. “He can do a lot of different things. I don’t know what their role for him is going to be…. What I learned when I was in Denver is that we built our offense around what he did well. We put in read-options. We put in some things that made him successful… ran him out of the pocket. If you want him to be ‘The Guy,’ you build your offense around him.”

With all due respect to Eric Decker, I don't think anyone not named "Tim" believes Chip Kelly thinks Tebow will be "The Guy" in Philadelphia. But could what Decker says be indicative of Tebow finding a way to make himself useful enough to make the Eagles roster next fall? That wouldn't shock me.
