The Philadelphia Phillies will likely be doing all they can to put butts in the seats the rest of the summer with the team struggling to stay within single digits of the .500 mark in 2014. Bringing back fan favorites like Roy Halladay and Charlie Manuel should help (not to pitch and manager, mind you).
Both will be in South Philly in August as part of alumni weekend. Some lucky fans will have a chance to lunch with Cholly on August 8th while plenty more fans will get the chance to own a sweet Roy Halladay bobble figurine.
From the team's release, "Alumni Weekend will lead off with former Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay, who will return to throw out the first ceremonial pitch and be recognized prior to Friday’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Mets. This is Doc’s first appearance at Citizens Bank Park since retiring from baseball last season. All fans in attendance will receive a Toyota Roy Halladay Bobble Figurine. "
Charlie will be honored with an induction onto the Phillies' Wall of Fame on Saturday the 9th of August prior to the game. So there are a couple of good reasons to go out and watch two pretty bad baseball teams.
CORRECTION: As pointed out on Twitter, Roy Halladay will actually throw *a* pitch prior to the ball game on the 8th. Our title indicated he would not pitch. We meant he would not pitch for the Phillies in an actual competitive game. But he will throw a ceremonial first pitch. We apologize for the confusion. Nobody is perfect. Except Roy Halladay against the Marlins.
