Video: Mets fans viciously boo Chase Utley

Chase Utley is not the most popular person in the Big Apple these days.

The former Phillies second baseman was allowed to suit up for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of their playoff series against the Mets, which happened to be the first in New York. This comes just days after Utley’s questionable takeout slide broke the leg of shortstop Ruben Tejada.

So how did the home crowd greet the hard-nosed Utley during pre-game introductions? About as warmly you can imagine.

Notice how the announcer adds an extra pause after naming Utley, giving the fans a little time

We here in Philadelphia are connoisseurs of the boo, and that friends is some of the angriest booing we’ve ever seen. You have to imagine Utley probably isn’t leaving the hotel much during this trip.

Utley was able to play because the appeal on his two-game suspension has not yet been heard, and now there’s a chance it might not matter. The Mets own a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series and can close the book on the Dodgers on Tuesday.

As for Utley, we’re pretty sure we knew what he was thinking…
