Based on the reviews I read on Twitter, it seems spectators had a good time at the NHL Draft, which was held at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia. As for rival executives and certain members of the league office, it might’ve been a little bit less of a good time.
For one, the Philly contingent let every other franchise know that they do, in fact, “suck,” especially chief rivals in New York, New Jersey and Pittsburgh. Nobody got it as bad as NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, though.
As Bettman steps to the podium to make the opening address, the arena erupts into some of the most dedicated booing you’ll ever see. Bettman’s speech lasts three minutes, and while the crowd starts to lose some steam around the two-minute mark, the sound never fully dies down. Finally, he’s ushered off the stage to one last strong round of hearty boos.
It was quite the battle. Way to represent, Philly fans.
